Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative including angels, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Revealing details for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the main group to begin their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.

This warrior group consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

First, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a intense opening clash with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The antagonist then settled his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a hostile location.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could help the team reach locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter vowed a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The healer betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This means them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in quest for the traitor.

Future Episodes

According to the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Seekers and Planners parties.

Viewers can anticipate discovering which players will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
